What time should I arrive for each event?

There will be extensive security screenings for each event similar to airport security. Traffic will be heavy. Please allow plenty of time to arrive, park and go through security.
IMPORTANT: See below for security information and prohibited items.

Honda Center
Doors open at 10:00 a.m.
Pre-show performances are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
Main birthday event is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.

Bren Events Center at UC Irvine
We recommend arriving at least 1.5 hours prior to the start time.
Doors will open at 8:00 a.m.
Pre-show performances are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.

How do I get there?

Parking Information

Parking at the Honda Center is $16 for standard parking and $25 for preferred parking (for the lots immediately adjacent to the venue).

Parking at the Bren Events Center, Mesa Parking Structure, adjacent to the Bren Events Center is $10 per vehicle. If the lot is full, you will be directed to alternate parking lots on campus.

Parking for Guests with Disabilities
Parking attendants will direct any vehicles with a valid state-issued disabled parking permit and/or a disabled license plate to the designated parking area.

Can my child sit in my lap?

If your child is two years or younger, s/he may sit in your lap. Children over two years old must have a ticket.

May I bring a gift for His Holiness the Dalai Lama?

Please do not bring any gifts; they cannot be delivered to His Holiness due to security restrictions and will be discarded. The best gift for His Holiness is to be compassionate! Click here to deliver a birthday message to His Holiness.

May I bring a bag or backpack?

A small bag or handbag is permitted. Backpacks are not permitted.

May I bring any mobile devices?

You may bring a cell phone or smartphone.
You may not bring a tablet, laptop or other computer.

May I take photographs?

You may only take photographs from your seat. No flash photos. No tripods.
You may not bring a camera with a lens longer than 6 inches. Camera bags are not allowed.

Professional photographers must request press credentials in advance.

Will food be available for purchase?

Food and beverage will be available for purchase at each venue.
No outside food will be allowed.


Metal detector wands will be placed at all entrances.
Lines may be long and personal items will be searched.

If you have any prohibited items, you will need to take them back to your vehicle and may lose your place in line.

How are the events being funded?

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama does not charge a speaking engagement fee and no aspect of His Holiness’ visit is being used to profit financially. The Global Compassion Summit and the world birthday celebration for His Holiness is a privately funded event.
